The Salt Path cast and crew stayed with us – here’s why

27th June 2025

With The Salt Path now showing in UK cinemas, we’re excited to share a small behind-the-scenes moment: during filming in North Devon, the cast and crew chose to stay here at Tors Park.

Our self-catered coastal retreat became their home during the North Devon stretch of production, offering the space, stillness and flexibility they needed while working across some of the South West Coast Path’s most iconic locations.

“After long days filming, Tors Park was the perfect retreat — private, flexible and just minutes from iconic landscapes,” said Poppy Gordon-Clark, Location Manager for The Salt Path. “It gave us the space to recharge while staying immersed in the world we were bringing to life.”

Why they chose Tors Park

The location team were looking for somewhere quiet and comfortable, with quick access to key filming spots — including the Valley of the Rocks, Porlock Weir, Capstone Hill in Ilfracombe, and the Hands Sculpture in Minehead.

Each site played a unique role in capturing the spirit of The Salt Path:

Valley of the Rocks offered otherworldly drama, with its jagged outcrops and feral goats setting the tone for scenes that needed a sense of ancient, untamed landscape.

Porlock Weir, with its weathered boats and slow tides, lent a sense of stillness and memory — perfect for more reflective moments in the story.

Capstone Hill, high above Ilfracombe’s historic harbour, brought sweeping views and wind-blown emotion, helping to convey the vast scale of the couple’s journey.

And the Hands Sculpture in Minehead marked a symbolic start to the trail — a place of beginnings, goodbyes, and resolve.

We offered exactly what the production needed: individually styled self-catered apartments, surrounded by sea views and Exmoor stillness. The cast and crew had the freedom to cook, rest, and retreat in privacy — a welcome alternative to hotel living during an extended shoot.

Beyond the practicalities, the creative team valued how the setting at Tors Park mirrored the atmosphere they were capturing on screen — raw, rugged, and quietly powerful. Nestled between sea and moor, our apartments gave them more than just proximity to filming locations: they offered a genuine sense of place.

During off-hours, several cast members explored the local area on foot, taking in the dramatic cliff-top paths and timeless seascapes that form the soul of the film. Others spent evenings gathered around the firepit, sharing stories from the day’s shoot and soaking in the coastal silence. These moments helped sustain the team’s creative energy and deepened their connection to the story they were telling.

“When the team behind The Salt Path chose Tors Park as their base, it really affirmed our vision — to create a place that feels like a home-from-home for those drawn to this coastline for creativity, adventure or restoration,” said India Glover, Co-Founder of Tors Park.

The Salt Path and the landscape that Inspired It

The Salt Path is, at its core, a love letter to landscape,  to the resilience it inspires and the clarity it offers. Much of the film’s emotional weight stems from the backdrop of the South West Coast Path, whose shifting skies and weathered cliffs are as much characters as the people onscreen.

Tors Park sits within reach of many of these cinematic spots. From here, it’s easy to trace the journey of Raynor and Moth, walking in their footsteps and witnessing the same expansive views that shaped their story. For guests, it’s a rare chance to inhabit the world of the film — not just watch it.

Planning your own Salt Path escape

Whether you’re a film fan, a walker, or simply seeking somewhere restorative, Tors Park invites you to experience this landscape first-hand. Stay in the same apartments used by the cast, walk the same trails, and see the coast through fresh eyes.

We offer year-round availability for individuals, couples, and groups — with easy access to walking routes, sea swims, and hidden gems throughout North Devon. If The Salt Path has inspired you, why not follow its footsteps a little further?
