Top Restaurants In North Devon

11th July 2022

Lynmouth is a quaint village nestled in the Exmoor National Park and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. It’s a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, with plenty of things to see and do. The village has a number of restaurants and pubs, so you’re never far from great food and drink. Here is our list of top restaurants in North Devon:

Locanda on the Weir

Fantastic fine dining in Porlock, a small harbour village a short drive from Tors Park.

The Chef Proprietor from Naples has a passion for fresh, locally sourced cuisine and Italian wines. These are reflected in the seasonal menus you can indulge in. Make sure to book well in advance, as the very few tables are highly sought after!

Kensington

An exciting new dining concept in Lynton. The place to go for a delicious steak, paired with a wonderful glass of wine. Make sure you say hello to Matt, the owner, and good friend of Tors Park.

The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun is a cosy pub on the harbour, serving great food and real ale. It’s great to sit outside at sunset and watch the changing colours on the heather on the sea cliffs across the bay. The pub is tied to Hall and Woodhouse Brewery and you can expect a wide selection of beers from this excellent brewery. Located just 10 minutes walk down the hill into Lynmouth Harbour, where you can enjoy lovely views of Lynmouth Harbour and beyond. The Rising Sun is dog friendly, so you don’t have to worry about leaving your furry friend at home.

The Ancient Mariner and The Bath Hotel

The Ancient Mariner is named after Coleridge’s Poem of the same name, which was written while he was in this area in 1798. Now known as the place to get local beer and cider including Exmoor Ales, and the favourite, Exmoor Gold. Owned by the Glover family, and run by Carly (no relation to us, but neighbours and good friends of Tors Park), as well as great food you’ll be able to spot a collection of maritime salvage, including a 20ft. torpedo and figurehead. The Ancient Mariner welcomes dogs, but The Bath Hotel restaurant does not and is located just a 10 minute walk down the hill into Lynmouth Harbour.

The Oak Room

The Oak Room in Lynton offers a mix of modern and traditional Tapas made with the best local produce. Anything they can’t find here, they import directly from Spain! With a fantastic variety of Spanish wines and spirits, there’s something for all taste buds. The welcoming and cosy eatery is located a 25 minute walk up a very steep hill, so we would recommend the funicular railway, driving, or using Riverside Taxis.

Charlie Friday’s

Enjoy a delicious breakfast in the most colourful café in the area! With great veggie options available. The cafe is dog friendly and located a 25 minute walk up a very steep hill. We would recommend the funicular railway, driving, or using Riverside Taxis.

Coffee Shack by the Sea

An exciting new edition to the Lynmouth coffee scene! Enjoy coffee and pastries on Lynmouth seafront, just a short walk down the woodland path from Tors Park. You could even get a takeaway for a walk down Blacklands Beach, or up the South West Costal Path.

The Black Venus Inn

Like some of our other restaurant recommendations, The Black Venus Inn is also a 25 minutes from Tors Park. The wonderful outdoor beer garden is great for warm days. Enjoy a delicious pudding, West Country Ale or a traditional cream tea in this charming country pub located in an enviable location within the Exmoor National Park.

Woods

Woods is a cosy pub restaurant located approximately 45 mins drive from Tors Park. Paddy, the owner, has compiled an extraordinary wine list, having won National Wine Pub Of The Year 10 years running! We love getting Paddy’s advice on the best wine pairing to go with dishes made from produce grown on his own farm (just a few minutes away). The rustic interior is the perfect pairing for the continentally inspired menu.

The Pyne Arms

This cosy pub is nestled in the countryside a short 20 mins drive from Tors Park. You can expect anything from warming pies, to refined duck dishes, and don’t miss out on the delicious puddings! There is also a wonderful selection of wines to choose from.

Esplanade Fish and Chips

Located just a 10 minute walk down the hill into Lynmouth Harbour. We love collecting our fish and chips and eating them while sitting on the Harbour wall (watch out for the seagulls!). The service is quick and friendly, with a great range of options to choose from. No trip to Lynmouth is complete without a visit here!
